Although I can easily recommend the whole show for at least a listen, I implore you to check out the Looks Like Rain, can't think of a better version off the top of my noodle with the Donna and Keith line-up and just a fantastic version of a tune that i had grown rather sick of...Garcia's tone is gorgeous and Keith is inspired, the jams are stellar...also, the start of Fire has some syncopated loopiness going on with the melody, pretty cool...

There are a bunch from that tour that are really nice. I am particularly fond of the LLR from this show:

I don't think i would ever write the words "particularly fond" when discussing LLR.

That IS nice . I always felt the song lost it with the departure of K. & D. In performances like this, It sounds sincere, like heart break of loss . Once he get s off the leash Donna puts one him, Bob is left to some of his worst instincts, sounding like some jaded "Rock Star" who has just lost a nice pice of ass ...
I sometimes will go out and make coffee when "No more fucking rain part kicks in ...Grrr But is a great version like this, it reminds me how good a song it can be . Great period for the Dead (yeah I know, 77 is overrated, yada yada ).

Interesting point -- about Donna keeping Bob in line when he had to actually sing with her.

Was anything going on in '77 that was different in terms of Donna's ability to hear herself? I understand she didn't always have a monitor, at least earlier ... had that changed in '77 by any chance?

Agree on '77. It's "overrated" only if someone thinks there has to be a "best" period for GD and 77 is somehow "it."
